It all began with a small idea in Tokyo in December 2015. As a team deeply rooted in both Indonesian and Japanese cultures, we recognized the urgent need to bridge the language, cultural, and educational gap between these two great nations we deeply care about.

Motivated by a vision to go far beyond academics, we designed a holistic educational program that blends the strengths of Japanese and Indonesian values — integrating character development, social awareness, and emotional well-being at the very core of every student's learning experience.

In 2018, we brought that vision to life by founding Nakamura School in Medan, Indonesia. From day one, we adopted a distinctive, holistic educational approach — merging the Indonesian national curriculum, international academic standards, and the core principles of Japanese education to nurture students who are morally grounded, culturally aware, and emotionally resilient.

That same year, construction of our campus began. Phase one was completed just in time to welcome our pioneer students on July 9, 2018 — the opening of the 2018/2019 Academic Year. Phase two followed on July 9, 2021, and phase three on November 9, 2023. We are now preparing for our fourth expansion phase to serve even more families.

Nakamura School began with Early Childhood Education and has since grown to include Primary, Junior High, and Senior High School levels. Throughout this journey, we have built a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning community where Indonesian and Japanese values, cultures, and communities thrive together in harmony.

Today, Nakamura School — Medan's leading Japanese-inspired holistic school — continues to make a meaningful impact on Indonesian education. We take pride in shaping future generations who are not only academically excellent but deeply rooted in strong values, cross-cultural awareness, and a truly global perspective.
